Economic Downturn Hits Home Here at GWP

Well, it’s happened. My talented, hard-working, honest, amazing husband (qua extraordinary graphic designer / logo maker / brand consultant / Design Director) got laid off today.
I just got off the phone with him and am reeling, though I know we’ll get through this. One door closes, another opens, blessings in disguise and all that.  But it’s pretty painful at the moment.
Here is Marco’s LinkedIn profile. If ever you’ve wondered who designed the GWP masthead, the Writopia logo, or, yes, the Care logo, it was my Marco.
The darling boy with an BFA from Cooper Union and two and a half decades of work experience will now be looking for a job. Leads on freelance?  Leads on staff positions as a Design Director or Creative Director at a branding or design firm here in NYC? Need some branding yourself?  Whoever gets him next will be darn lucky to have him. He’s one of a kind.
Thank you for spreading the word! (Feel free to email me directly if you like at deborah@girlwpen.com)

I’m sorry.
I just google shared this post and will keep my ears out. My husband is underemployed (again) after this last lay-off but all the angst/budget woes have been opportunities for growth. Not that I wouldn’t give up the growth for solvency but I’m working on a positive outlook for 2009. (And I know I need to get that review to you — the holidays had me swamped and I’m just coming out from under them!!)

That is tough news. My husband’s company is is turmoil after an expected merger was scuttled over the xmas holiday. 10% across the board staff cuts are expected by mid-month, so we sit and wait.
All things pass eventually but it is uncomfortable in the meantime.
Best of luck to your hubby.

Thank you dawn and anniegirl. Sending you both love and support, as well. dawn: I completely agree and feel the same way about opps for growth. I’m a deeply optimistic person, and I’m finding myself drawing strength from that right now!
