A few quick hits:
A front page story in this weekends Style section titled “Daddy’s Home, and a Bit Lost”
Tracy Clark-Flory at Salon on “Rosies of the Recession
Barnard’s new President on “One Gender’s Crash” in WaPo
Former Sec’y of Labor Robert Reich on The Stimulus: How to Create Jobs Without Them All Going to Skilled Professionals and White Male Construction Workers
And for kicks (though not explicitly on recession), a new video from the YWCA’s OWN IT initiative on what young women want from the Obama Administration.
Seen more stuff on gender and the recession? I’m collecting links!

The link for the Daddy’s Home article is wrong — the correct link is:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/fashion/11berrys.html?em
The link you gave goes to a 2002 article, which suggests that this isn’t quite as recent a phenomenon as all that.

Thank you for the link correction, Elizabeth! And Paul, I had visceral response to that article and will write about it some more if I can today! I agree with your post on all fronts. And though I related to aspects, as my own husband just got laidoff, the article was full of such class-bound cluelessness, it made me want to seriously give this couple a smackdown. Even as my heart went out to them. If SAHD is a dope, Wife is a frivolous shopoholic, so stereotypes at play all around. Needless to say, mixed reactions to the piece.
